"For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake."
II Corinthians 4:5

Church Ministries:

Deaf Ministry

Aloha! We invite you to visit our deaf ministry at Koolau Baptist Church by attending one of our church services. Isaiah 43:8 teaches us to: Bring forth...the deaf that have ears. Then in Isaiah 42:18 "Hear, ye deaf;..." All of our services are interpreted for the deaf. We have several qualified interpreters who are friendly, warm, and look forward to meeting people new to our community and church. In the mid-1990's, Koolau Baptist Church felt the burden to reach the Deaf and Hearing Impaired persons of our community. If you are deaf or hearing impaired, we exist for you! Also, if you know anyone who is deaf or hearing impaired, please tell them about our ministry and let us know so we can contact them.

Did you know?: The Island of Oahu has close to a million residents and many of them suffer from hearing disorders. The following statistics highlight the great need in our community and our church for a deaf ministry such as ours:

1) Fifteen (15) of every 1000 people under age 18 have some type of hearing impairment; 415 of every 1000 people over 75 have some type of hearing impairment (Vital & Health Statistics, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 1994).

2) A 1990-91 Health Interview Survey revealed hearing impairment to be: 0.10% in 3-17 year olds; 0.12% in 18-44; 0.49 in 45-64, and 2.48 in 65 and older. (National Center for Health Statistics).

3) Prevalence in all ages: 8.6%; under 45 years of age: 3.7%; 45-64: 13.8%; 65 years and older: 28.6%. (Health Interview Survey 1994).

Mary Martha Missionary Circle

This Circle (fellowship) of Ko'olau Baptist Church ladies, is named after Mary and Martha as an encouragement to follow the example of both Mary as she sat at the feet of Jesus to learn of Him, and Martha as she served the Lord. (Luke 10:39-42; John 12:2-3). The purpose of this Circle, is to become more closely familiar with our missionaries, their needs, and also to pray for our missionaries and their families. The fellowship meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Each meeting includes 1st) a business meeting (discussing and working on projects to assist foreign missions and ministering to the needs of our church members, etc.), 2nd) a prayer time for our missionary's, 3rd) a special devotion or Bible study from one of our ladies or a guest speaker, and 4th) a time of fellowship and refreshments. The Circle verse of encouragement is: 1 Corinthians 15:58, "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."

Visitation

The Bible says in Matthew 18:19-20, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” On Tuesdays we visit those that have visited our church. We write letters and make phone calls to reach out to the lost and those searching for a church home. The members of Koolau Baptist Church also practice this great commission of our Lord and Savior every Saturday morning. We meet in the auditorium for a time of prayer, and then pass out assignments for visiting the local neighborhood.

The feet of Koolau Baptist Church members regularly take the gospel out to the local community. Paul, in Romans 10:14-15 states, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Patch the Pirate and Pee Wee are great activities for kids to grow in spiritually! Bring your child to our Patch program here at Koolau Baptist Church and it will become a weekly must for them! Scripture tells us to, “Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6.

Prison Ministry

Koolau Baptist Church members have been visiting one of our local Honolulu prisons weekly, for many years now. Normally, we conduct our meetings in two separate prison cellblocks. The men of the local prison are very appreciative that we volunteer our time to come in to them and bring the word of God. During the cellblock time we sing songs, we pray for the men, and we open the word of life and preach for a good 30 minutes. To God’s glory numerous prisoners over the years have repented of their sins and received Jesus Christ into their hearts as a result of this ministry.

Read the passage in Matthew where Jesus describes the last judgment (Matthew 25:31-46). To Christians (His sheep) He states, “I was in prison, and ye came unto me.“ (Mt 25:36b). The question to Him is: “when did we see you in prison?” (Mt. 25:39). Jesus responds, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Mt. 25:40b). Friend, if you’re looking for a blessing and a truly wonderful ministry in the church you join, consider joining us and the men who make up our prison ministry.

Sunday School Ministry

Our Sunday School has a class for children, youth, singles, adults, and a new members class. Paul told Timothy to, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15). Each of our classes aim to reach people, teach the Bible in an uncompromising manner, convince participants of it’s majestic truths, and encourage everyone to enjoy the practical application of the word to their own lives. If you’re interested in sound bible teaching, “come see” one of our Sunday School classes and find out for yourself how God is transforming the lives of the members of Koolau Baptist Church, more and more into the image of His son, Jesus Christ.

Music Ministry

Paul encouraged the Ephesians when He wrote, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;“ (Eph. 5:19). Our music at Koolau Baptist Church is traditional. We love and sing the “Old Hymns” of our Baptist faith understanding that God is not honored by contemporary music that seeks to please the emotions while conforming to the flesh. Our choir and it’s director present special music as well as the members of our congregation in general. We have just begun collecting “change” from our members on a weekly basis to purchase new hymnals to replace the old and worn out hymnals we now have...they are old and worn out because over the past twenty years we have handled them so often, loved them so much, and make them an integral part of our services. If you play an instrument or if you sing and are interested in a music ministry in the church you are seeking for, give us a try and become part of a ministry that allows you the opportunity to be a weekly blessing to others.

Ushers Ministry

The ushers at Koolau Baptist Church are men that are convinced of the importance of being servants. You’ll find them to be friendly, helpful, and eager to help you in anyway possible. One of their many tasks is handing out Visitor packets. These packets have information in them about our ministry and a card for visitors to fill out to inform us who you are and how we can help you. When you visit us, our ushers will seek to make you feel welcomed and appreciated. "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." Galatians 6:10.

Youth

The youth at Koolau Baptist Church participate in their Sunday School class, enjoy a Wednesday night youth activity, and take part in various teen activities that are scheduled throughout the year. All of our youth functions and activities are Christ centered. As the Psalmist wrote, “That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace:“ (Psalms 144:12).

Deacons Ministry

The deacons at Koolau Baptist Church are servants called to serve God's people here in our local assembly. Serving others is a good and honorable testimony. Jesus said, "And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all." Mark 10:44. The members of our church recognize our deacons as servants and praise the Lord for their service.

Acts 6:1-6 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
